Vanessa Cooke, Principal, will retire at the end of the summer

Seton would like to share that Vanessa Cooke, Principal, will retire at the end of the summer. Principal Cooke has devoted the majority of her professional career to Elizabeth Seton High School, serving for 34 years as Guidance Counselor, Dean of Guidance, and Principal.

During her time at Seton, Principal Cooke acted as a fierce advocate and safe space for countless Seton women, many of whom credit her with their ability to successfully navigate the multifaceted challenges they faced at Seton, as well as their acceptance into the colleges/universities of their choice. She spearheaded many diversity initiatives at Seton, serving as faculty sponsor for the Onyx Club (Black Student Union) and the gospel choir. She oversaw the diversity, equity, inclusion and access work at Seton for the past two years. Most recently, she responded to the Daughters’ and Board’s call to lead our school community during one of the most challenging periods we have faced–a major leadership transition and an unprecedented pandemic. In her role as Principal, she has reengaged many Seton alumnae, co-led the development of Seton’s strategic plan, hired exceptional faculty and staff, and successfully graduated two senior classes, among other accomplishments. Most importantly, she nurtured and mentored thousands of women who have passed through Seton doors.

Principal Cooke’s contribution to our school is profound. As she transitions into retirement, we pray that she continues to experience the fulfillment and joy that she brought to her professional work each day at Seton. We will hold a special celebration for her soon. In the meantime, please join me in thanking her for the legacy that she leaves behind.
