Bladensburg, MD, November 3, 2023 — Elizabeth Seton High School is thrilled to announce the appointment of Niki Reid Geckeler as the new Athletic Director, effective January 2024. Niki brings a wealth of experience and an impressive track record in athletics, highlighting her journey from a student-athlete to a distinguished coaching career.
Niki's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in English from Georgetown University in 1993. Her athletic career is marked by a series of remarkable accomplishments. As an Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Georgetown University from 2017 to 2023, she played a vital role in the daily operational processes of a Division I basketball program. Niki collaborated with the athletic training and sports performance staff to ensure student-athletes' safety and overall performance enhancement. Her commitment to academic success is evident in her role as an academic liaison, resulting in an impressive 3.53 team GPA.
Niki's extensive experience includes Head Coach positions at Howard University (2008-2013) and Towson University (2013-2017), where she managed all aspects of Division I programs, mentored award-winning players, achieved high graduation rates, and actively engaged with alumni and the community to foster fundraising efforts.
Her history at Georgetown University Women's Basketball (2004-2008) and Fordham University Women's Basketball (2002-2004 and 1995-1996) showcases her versatility as a coach, where she held various positions, including assistant, associate head coach, recruiting coordinator, and more. Her responsibilities included player development, academic support, and community engagement, while she also successfully implemented marketing initiatives to increase attendance.
Niki is a seasoned educator with prior teaching experience in the NYC Board of Education, where she founded a girls' club that promoted scholastic achievement and community involvement. She demonstrated her commitment to academic and personal growth as Chairperson of the School Wide Planning Committee.

Elizabeth Seton High School is a girls' Catholic high school offering a college preparatory curriculum in grades 9 through 12. Currently, Seton offers 13 advanced placement and 24 honors-level courses. Seton's curriculum has evolved to include four pre-career programs that provide students exposure to career fields inside and outside the classroom. Each of these academic tracks offers professional mentorship and internship programs.
